State-Wide Precinct Meetings Set!

The State GOP has set Monday February 6 for state-wide GOP precinct meetings. Most counties will adhere to that schedule, but not all.

In Comanche County, precinct meetings and county convention will be combined and all will meet at a central location. This format has worked well for the past several years!

ALL will meet Tuesday February 7 at the Great Plains Tech School, Lawton, bldg 700, at 6:00pm for the precinct meeting; break at 7:00pm; reconvene with County Convention at approx 7:10pm.

The business agenda of the Convention is important and will be quite full: sign-up as delegates to 4th District and State GOP conventions; annual BBQ; other.

Don't miss being a part of the grassroots beginning of things political. Mark your calendars NOW and make plans to attend February 7. You must be a registered Republican to attend and vote!

Note: State party rules require that a person attend their precinct meeting and convention if they wish to be a delegate to 4th District or the State Convention.

Herman Cain to be in OKC!

Presidential Debate Coming to Duncan!

On Thursday November 10th, the Stephens County Republican Party will stage a mock debate featuring local Republicans portraying eight GOP presidential candidates. Those eight brave souls have volunteered to research their candidate’s position on the issues and formulate answers as the candidate would. “This is not just for entertainment value,” Steve Fair, the Stephens County GOP Chairman said. “It is to educate local Republicans on those running.”

The ‘candidates’ seem to be up for the task. “I’m going to be Governor Rick Perry,” Wayne Watts says. “I plan to wear my cowboy boots and be as much of a Texan as a native Okie can be,” Wayne said. Congressman Ron Paul will be portrayed by Gil Jackson, a long time GOP volunteer. “I’ve got this,” Jackson says. “This will be fun and I can’t wait.”

The candidates will be asked probing questions by a three person panel who are also portraying members of the national media. “I would encourage anyone interested to join us, regardless of Party affiliation,” Fair says.

The debate will be held at the Red River Technology Center in Duncan in the Seminar Room beginning at 7:00pm. There is no admission charge and the public is invited.

Rep. TW Shannon of Lawton - elected Speaker-Designate

Rep. T.W. Shannon has been elected House Speaker-designate for the 54th Oklahoma Legislature.
His elected is historic; he is the first black elected to the top position. He also is the first black to represent a southern Oklahoma district.

The House Republican Caucus elected Shannon, R-Lawton/Comanche County, as Speaker-designate during a caucus meeting Monday morning at the Capitol.

Should Republicans maintain their majority in the House following next year’s election cycle, Shannon will be next in line to serve as Speaker of the House beginning in November 2012, when current House Speaker Kris Steele leaves office due to term limits.

“The House will be in good hands under Representative Shannon’s leadership,” said Steele, R-Shawnee. “T.W. is a dynamic and capable leader who will continue to work hard for the state of Oklahoma. I look forward to begin working with him to ensure a smooth leadership transition next year.”

Shannon and Reps. Jeff Hickman, R-Fairview, and Mike Reynolds, R-Oklahoma City, were the candidates for Speaker-designate.
“The three candidates who made themselves available to fill this position are fine public servants and are to be commended for their enthusiastic desire to be leaders in Oklahoma’s effort to grow as a state,” Steele said.
Shannon, 33, said he looks forward to working with Steele and the rest of the House in the coming months.

“I was extremely humbled by the support shown by my colleagues today,” Shannon said. “I am excited and ready to stand behind Speaker Steele to help grow our majority in the coming election and assist in advancing a conservative agenda that will make Oklahoma a destination to live, work and raise a family.”

Shannon, an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation, is a sixth generation Oklahoman and third generation Lawtonian. He has served in the Legislature since 2006, representing House District 62. Shannon previously served as a congressional staffer for U.S. Reps. J.C. Watts and Tom Cole.

Shannon and his wife, Devon, also a Lawton native, are the parents of a daughter, Audrey Grace, and a son, Tahrohon Wayne II.

Shannon holds a bachelor of arts in communications from Cameron University and a juris doctorate from Oklahoma City University.

CHANGES in Election Laws and dates!

Re-districting has made numerous changes on the political landscape in Oklahoma, resulting in many changes in boundaries, districts, precincts. Voters and potential candidates for office need to read and be clear on those and other changes made in election – voting – dates -filing laws in Oklahoma.

The county election boards will have all new changes, data, maps, by January 1.

Filing for 2012 will be April 11-12-13. A Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. A departure from the long time M-W.

The Primary will be June 26; a run-off (if needed) will be August 28; the General Election will be November 6. (Presidential election year).

The deadline to change party affiliation or place of residency - IF you plan to run for office - closed on October 11. Those changes have to be made a minimum of 6 months BEFORE filing to run for office.

Other changes to current registration or for NEW voters to register, fluctuates with election dates. If you need to register or make any changes, the sooner the better.

A photo ID will now be required each and every time you vote! Don’t forget it!

'Off ' Years can be Productive......

'Off election' years - such as 2011 - are a good time for county parties across the state(s) to assess their organization, their plans, their mission for the election year in 2012. All elections are important, but 2012 will be especially important as the Nation will choose a new President and political interest - for most - is at the peak in Presidential years.

Favorability and confidence for the current President is at an historic low. Conditions in our country are at an all time low in most areas: economy/jobs; education; healthcare, taxes, individual freedoms, etc. All these factors will have a profound effect on the out come of elections in 2012. It is crucial we start at the local 'grass-roots' level (County Party) to prepare for this election year.

With-in our state, we need to work to return good people to Congress and the State Legislature.
Those who are working at both levels of government for individual rights; smaller, more efficient government; getting the government off our backs and out of our pockets; Obama care repealed and EPA shut down; regulations that are quashing small businesses....removed!

As a voter and before you vote, read, listen, be informed on these and all issues and where a given candidate stands on said issues. If an incumbent is seeking re-election, check his/her voting record. Voters hold the key to good government in their hands.

The county party - YOU - need to encourage fellow Republicans to become involved and work with YOU! Step up to the plate, roll up your sleeves, and work to build the party so it will have a 'work force' when the candidates begin their campaigns. People who will work when the time comes, to open the local campaign office and 'get-out-the-VOTE'. 'We' must be prepared!

'We' need to get people registered to vote, friends, family, neighbors, co-workers - forms are available at the courthouse; get those who are registered to attend meetings and other events; become acquainted with fellow Republicans and learn the way the county party functions; start looking for candidates to run for office - now or in future; look at issues in our state that need to be addressed - there is a plethora of news sources available; recruit and then work for candidates willing to tackle the hard issues; so much work that needs to be and can be done, in these off years. 'We' must be prepared!

What has been mentioned is the tip of the iceberg. There is no magical 'local county party'. The county party is YOU....in slow 'off years' and fast election years! The county party can be no more effective than the time, effort, and monetary means the local Republicans (YOU) are willing to provide.

The county party can be a very effective tool in educating voters on issues of the day and getting good, conservative, Republicans elected to office, BUT.... 'We' must be prepared! The CCRP encourages YOU to be a part of this great effort.

The 2011 State Republican Party Convention was held May 6-7 in OK City.

(Oklahoma City) Before a record crowd last Friday evening, Bill and Georgia Williams of Lawton received the Skip Healey "Party Builder" Award from the Oklahoma Republican Party.

The "Party Builder Award" is an award given annually to an individual or couple with a long proven track record of building the Republican Party in Oklahoma.

"Bill and Georgia epitomize our Party Builder Award," said OKGOP Chairman Matt Pinnell. "They have helped turnaround Southwest Oklahoma, and we can't begin to thank them enough for their years of service to our Party and its causes."

The Williams have been involved with GOP efforts in Southwest Oklahoma for decades. They started the "Comanche County BBQ" event over 17 years ago, and today, it's grown into one of the largest and most successful annual conservative events of the year.

Long time GOP activist and worker, Mary Rumph of Enid, won the Ronald Reagan Award. Holly Gerard - from Bryan County (Durant) - won the first annual "Rising Star" Award. She was Josh Brechen's campaign manager, and she is the current 2nd District Vice Chair. Josh won his race & now represents District 6 in the OK Senate.

The Friday night gala dinner was a packed house and keynote speaker Frank Luntz - FOX News contributor, pollster, and author - gave a great presentation although his 'style' of delivery was somewhat different. Mr. Luntz had copies of his latest book - 'WIN' - and he happily autographed copies for many!

Most of Oklahomas Congressional delegation were in attendance along with Governor Mary Fallin; Lt. Governor Todd Lamb; most other State office holders, Legislators, and some County officers.

On Saturday, Mitt Pinnell was re-elected State Party Chairman with no opposition; long time Republican activist Pam Pollard was handily elected new State Vice-Chairman. Delegates soundly defeated a move (2nd time in two years) to change to a caucus system.

Great attendance, well organized, party business well executed.

Comanche County GOP Precinct Meetings - Convention

MONDAY ~ FEBRUARY 7 ~ PRECINT MEETING AND COUNTY COVENTION;
ALL MEET ~ 6:00PM ~ GREAT PLAINS TECH SCHOOL ~ BLDG. 700

Comanche County Republicans will merge their county-wide precinct meetings with their County Convention and for additional convenience will also have ALL precincts meet at one central location (as in past).

Registered Republicans will meet on Monday evening February 7 in bldg 700 (west side of complex) of the Great Plains Tech School in Lawton. Precinct meeting(s) will begin at 6:00pm with attendees meeting in small groups with others of their precinct to conduct their business. The County Convention will begin at 7:00pm. Special guest speaker for the convention will be recently elected Western District County Commissioner, Don Hawthorne.

Topping the convention business will be election of County officers for the 2011 - 2013 cycle and selection of delegates for the State Convention set for May 6-7 in OKC. Refreshments will be served.

Republicans are required by state party rules to attend their precinct meeting and county convention if they desire to be delegates to the State Convention.

GOP Takes Governor...sweeps state races....

The GOP in Oklahoma took the Governors mansion, the Lt. Governor's seat, and made a clean sweep of the rest of the state-wide offices.

Governor-elect Mary Fallin - Oklahoma native of Tecumseh - made history as the first woman Governor of Oklahoma and made National news along with numerous other women in politics and 'firsts' across the Nation.

House Republicans gained eight seats and now hold a 70-31 margin of control in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

With Democrats having been in control for decades, they are desperate to keep a lid on all these offices, especially the Auditor and Inspector. With the upcoming election on November 2nd much of our focus is upon Washington, D.C. and the historic Governors’ race between Mary Fallin and Jari Askins. But have you thought about how important the offices of Attorney General and State Auditor can be to promoting good government in Oklahoma?

The Attorney General has the power to subpoena and the ability to prosecute. Scott Pruitt is an honest man, committed constitutionalist and he leads his opponent by a large margin. In my opinion he will make a really good Attorney General and will serve the citizens of Oklahoma well.

It has been close to thirty years since we have had a state auditor who was willing to step up and hold ALL of our state entities accountable. The State Auditor has the power to examine any state funded organization in Oklahoma and can turn over the findings of this inspection to prosecuting authorities. I've known Gary and worked with him for over eight years. Gary is a man of integrity who is not afraid to make an enemy by standing upon his principles.

Gary’s opponent for State Auditor is a political appointee who is filling the remaining term of the disgraced and imprisoned criminal Jeff McMahan. McMahan was a spoke in the wheel of the notorious Gene-Stipe-Political-Machine and McMahan's appointed replacement owns the bank in Broken Bow that Stipe partially used to fund his illegal schemes. http://stevefair.blogspot.com/2010/10/oh.html

New Broken Arrow School Superintendent Jarod Mendenhall says, “the ongoing problems with the (prolonged) state audit is diverting his attention from where he wants it to be.” He says, “he's disappointed the (three-year) audit wasn't released on September 2nd (of this year) like it was supposed to be.” http://krmg.com/localnews/2010/09/broken-arrow-schools-audit.html

Interesting side note: McMahan's appointed replacement is also the brother of Gene Stipe's defense attorney...

Fraud, waste and corruption must be rooted out and purged from our political system and in my opinion there is a strong possibility that the surface has only been scratched regarding Stipe's Organization of Crime. http://newsok.com/former-oklahoma-legislator-cohort-get-prison-for-kickbacks/article/3373150

At best, McMahan's replacement appears to be too close to Stipe's Organization of Crime to be an effective State Auditor.

In contrast, Gary Jones has used his investigative and auditing skills to uncover the schemes of Stipe/McMahan and turned over this data to the FBI. This evidence opened the door to the federal convictions of Stipe, McMahan and at least some of their collaborators. If elected, Gary Jones will use the same skills and moral convictions to hold our State Government accountable.

GOP Gains in Voter Registration

Republicans continue to gain in voter registration.

Since Jan. 15, the number of registered voters in Oklahoma increased by 24,993, state Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said Wednesday [Sept. 15].
Republicans made the biggest gains adding 18,548 to their numbers while Independents increased 8,161. Democrats dropped by 1,716.

Democrats with 48.4% still maintain the greatest share of the state's 2,063,613 registered voters. Republicans are at 40.3% and Independents total 11.3%.
In 1980, Democrats were 75.8% of registered voters while Republicans were 22.8% and Independents were 1.4%.

Republicans have been making gains since the mid-1960's, said Keith Gaddie, an OU political science professor. Within the next decade he expects Republicans to be in the majority in voter registration.
"Mostly new registration is Republican", Gaddie said. "That is a long term trend in Oklahoma."
A lot of people who are registered as Democrats tend to vote for Republicans in at least National elections, said Richard Johnson, chairman of the political science dept at OCU.
"The Democratic presence in the state is overstated by the registration," Johnson said.
He attributes part of the rise in Republican registration to the tea party movement.

Deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 2 General Election is October 8.
To register to vote, a person must be at least 18 years old on or before election day, a US citizen, and a legal resident of the state.

Voters should not be swayed by high-pitched rhetoric that's bound to reach the keening level by [November 2]. Voters should remember that bumper-sticker messages, 30-second spots on radio and television, brief printed advertisements and the number of political signs for a particular candidate cannot and do not define the people running for office and their abilities [or lack of] to get the job done.

Voting is a personal decision and should be based on information, not the sound of a candidate's name or the cleverness of campaign ads or a sea of colored signs. These people on the ballot, if elected, someday will have a say in our lives. They will control our tax dollars, oversee the running of government and the enforcement of laws.

The Comanche County Republican Party has set 11:00am Tuesday September 7 as the date for opening a campaign/election office for the 2010 election cycle. Located at 1322 N. Sheridan Road in Lawton (former AT&T bldg), the office will have campaign literature and signs for all Republican candidates - local and state-wide races.
A Grand Opening/Open House is set for 10:00am ~ 2:00pm on Saturday September 25. ALL candidates will be invited as special guests for this event.

There will also be information on the State Questions that voters will have on their November 2 ballot. In addition, voter registration forms will also be available to register to vote or to make changes to your current registration.

Run-off decision still to be made for a few candidates that will then run in the General Election November 2. Voters state-wide will have one run-off race to decide August 24.
John Doak vs John Crawford for State Insurance Commissioner. In Comanche County, voters will also decide on the Western District County Commissioner – Don Hawthorne vs Joe English.
Voters in other counties need to check their area for local races that may have run-off votes coming up.

Turn-out for the Primary was not nearly as good as it could/should have been and run-offs are notoriously much worse. The CCRP asks you voters to be supportive of the candidates. They have worked hard, made the effort to run. Expended time, money, energy! They deserve a few minutes of the voters time and you should want a say in selection of candidates to represent us!

Republican State Chairman Gary Jones confirmed today he is resigning after filing for auditor & inspector on Wednesday. Jones told KTOK News his last day as chairman will be Monday.
Party sources say Jones' resignation follows a telephone conference with party leaders last night.

Possible replacements include Steve Fair and Matt Pinnell. Fair is Stephens County GOP chairman; 4th Distract Chair; and hosts the blog, 'Fair and Biased'.

Pinnell headed up a party organization in the last election cycle and most recently has worked for American Majority Oklahoma. He's worked for several elected Republicans. He announced today he is seeking support for the post.

The State Committee will vote for a replacement on June 26th.

US Senator Jim Inhofe - R- OK, not given a place or time to talk to the major participants at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, traveled 18 hours round trip to Copenhagen to give a one hour press conference. Inhofe who has always called 'global warming' a HOAX, told the news media that the US Senate would NOT be able to pass a cap - and - trade system to limit carbon emissions and that the American public OPPOSE the bill.

[State Democrat Chair]Goodman's memo follows by hours similar comments by national Democrats saying the same thing about Republicans. Talking points? Hmmmmm.

Goodman's thesis is one being shouted by his colleagues, mostly in closets, and sometimes by the mainstream media, but virtually unheard by ordinary voters.

Truth is, the old shibboleth "far-right wing of the Republican Party" just doesn't mean anything anymore (except to far left Democrats) and Goodman and his colleagues continue to use it just as they use "Progressive" to avoid the word "Liberal."

Goodman writes, "By continuing to let distractions dominate and ignore the issues most important to Oklahomans, the GOP is proving once again that their party is out of touch with the needs of the state and is squandering their opportunity to lead. Though this state of affairs is certainly not good for our state as a whole, this does present an opportunity for the Democratic Party to distinguish ourselves going into the 2010 elections."

What are Goodman's definitions of "distractions" and what "issues most important to Oklahoma" are being ignored? Let's see: Gay rights?
Throwing more money at social agencies? Growing government and spending more tax dollars? I get it. The liberal thesis. Opportunity to "distinguish ourselves in elections"?
Let's see, Goodman's party has no candidates thus far for the U. S. Senate in 2010, has no candidates for Congress in the 1st, 3rd, 4th or 5th Districts and saw its liberal nominee for the U. S. Senate in 2008 go down in flames. Plus, his candidate lost in the last special legislative election earlier this year.

Goodman writes that, "Reports have surfaced that GOP state Sen. Glenn Coffee has been using threats and intimidation to get his way in an internal leadership fight. Fueling a three-way battle for whom will take his place as Senate Republican Leader in 2011, Coffee's actions - reported to include threats to 'burn down the house' if he doesn't get his way - show he has given up on being a leader for Oklahoma, instead choosing to sit around the Capitol and bicker." Well.

Despite Goodman's attempt to paint Coffee as some sort of backroom ne'er-do-well with a meataxe in one hand and a spike-studded-ball-and-chain in the other, there's evidence the President Pro Tem has been pretty even-handed in the whole succession thing. Can't blame him for having his own candidate in the race, but Goodman's view apparently is that that idea is foreign to politics. Goodman obviously hasn't been around very long.
And in his most glaring misdirection ploy, Goodman argues that because GOP leaders have filed some lawsuits, they are clogging the courts. Heavens!

This from a guy whose party and its candidates wallow in campaign dollars from trial lawyers and whose previous Senate President Pro Tem wrote a letter urging Texas lawyers to get into Oklahoma before tort reform made filing here more difficult.

Goodman's memo continues with other tedious, shop-worn allegations. No one argues that the 2010 elections won't be competitive, with Democrats and Republicans battling up and down the line. But Democratic candidates who adopt Goodman's party line may wind up being more laughed at than voted for.

THE OKLAHOMAN IS ‘IN A STEW!’

Gary Jones, state Republican chairman, filed a lawsuit last week against his former political opponent Jeff McMahan and McMahan’s wife Lori along with four other defendants. Jones is seeking reimbursement of nearly $250,000 for what he personally spent on the 2002 and 2006 State Auditor and Inspector races.

Jones alleges, and Steve Phipps verified in McMahan’s trial, the two elections were “stolen” from him. Jones lost both elections by razor thin margins. In an opinion/editorial on Thanksgiving Day entitled, “Jones’ stew: State GOP chairman can’t let elections go,” The Oklahoman said. “We’d like to think the state’s GOP chairman has better things to do. Surely Oklahoma’s court’s do.”

Is Jones’ lawsuit sour grapes? Does the state GOP chairman have better things to do than sue his former political opponent? Is this a frivolous lawsuit?

Let’s address these questions in reverse order. First, do the courts have better things to do? Is this a frivolous lawsuit? According to a legal dictionary a “frivolous” lawsuit is defined as, A baseless lawsuit that is filed with little or no prospect of success.

Jones’ lawsuit is not baseless as the editorial itself admits. The Oklahoman says, “his opponent each time, Jeff McMahan, proved to be as crooked as the day is long, and now is serving eight years in prison for accepting illegal campaign contributions.” There is no doubt Jones’ was cheated in both elections and the federal court system bore out that fact with the conviction of the McMahons and Phipps.

Does Jones’ have a prospect of success with this lawsuit? Only a juror knows, but he certainly deserves his day in court for having the two elections stolen from him. The implication by The Oklahoman that political candidates relinquish the right to legal recourse when opponents lie, cheat and steal to win an election is flat wrong. The lawsuit is not frivolous and if Jones wins, it will likely act as a deterrent to like-minded cheats and crooks that seek to “steal” future elections.

Second, does the state GOP chairman have better things to do than sue his former political opponent? I’m not sure what The Oklahoman thinks the GOP chair’s job involves, but it’s not one of “going gently into that good night.” The chair is charged with leading by example and with making sure GOP candidates are treated fairly in elections. The chair coordinates the state party’s efforts to recruit candidates, train them, and exhort them to play by the rules in the elective process. Jones’ filing of this lawsuit sends the message the GOP plays by the rules and expects everyone else to play by the rules or face the consequences. That’s a huge part of what the GOP chair’s job should be- lead by example. Jones filing of the lawsuit is consistent with that mantra.

Third, is Jones’ lawsuit sour grapes? The contention Jones’ can’t get past the two elections he had stolen from him is probably accurate, but who could? It’s human nature to play the “what if” game in our mind. Jones ran competitive well-organized campaigns that needed ‘just a little more’ to get over the top. He lost both elections by less than 40,000 votes statewide. Secondary statewide races are tough races to raise money for, hence the reason Jones ponied up nearly a quarter of a million of his own money in the two races. The input of the illegal campaign contributions likely resulted in Jones’ close defeat.

Some say Jones should just sigh and go on? Even some Republicans agree with this laissez faire approach, but those same Rs are not very courageous and avoid the “tough” issues like the plague, so their creditability is seriously lacking. The “right” thing to do is insure cheats and crooks are sent a message that stealing elections has consequences and the best place to send that message is through the court system by hitting them in their pocketbook.

The Oklahoman endorsed McMahan when he ran in 2002. In 2006, they were presented compelling evidence of McMahan’s illegal campaign finance scheme, but instead of endorsing Jones, they chose to “stay out of the race.” They endorsed no one. In either year, the race was so close, an endorsement by the state’s largest newspaper would have swung the election in Jones’ favor.

Instead of attacking Jones for filing a lawsuit against people who wronged him, The Oklahoman should be apologizing to the people of Oklahoma for helping get McMahan elected. As to their catty, immature comment about Jones’ “mental anguish” in the editorial, it was The Oklahoman who gave the citizens of Oklahoma five years of “mental anguish” by promoting a crook for elective office.

Jones’ shouldn’t let those elections go. They exposed major corruption in Oklahoma government and in the elective process. Oklahoma citizens are better off because Gary Jones had the courage to run for office and to expose corruption in the elective process.

The definition of stew is, “to be in a huff; be silent or sullen." Jones isn’t the one “in a stew-“ it’s The Oklahoman and wimps who wrongly believe McMahan and his cronies are the only ones that want to steal elections. This lawsuit sends a message that if you cheat, you pay!

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 19, 2009) – House Speaker Pro Tempore Kris Steele was elected Speaker-designate by acclamation today for the 53rd Legislature.

The House Republican caucus met today to vote on who will be in line to become Speaker of the House should Republicans hold onto their majority following the fall elections next year.
“It is a tremendous relief knowing the House will be in such capable hands,” said House Speaker Chris Benge, who because of term limits cannot run for re-election in 2010.
“Representative Steele possesses all of the qualities needed to be a strong leader of the House of Representatives—he brings a great amount of integrity to the position, he has a genuine concern for all Oklahomans, and he is incredibly knowledgeable on the issues facing Oklahomans today. He is a hard worker with a servant’s heart and I know he will serve the House to the best of his abilities.”

Benge, who will serve as Speaker of the House through Nov. 2010, also praised the House Republican caucus for the smooth leadership transition.
“Today’s election shows we are all united in our support for Kris and stand ready to continue our push for a better state for all Oklahomans,” said Benge, R-Tulsa.
Rep. Steele said he was humbled by the support shown by his colleagues and is ready to work with Speaker Benge in his final legislative year.

“Our caucus is united behind one purpose—making Oklahoma the best state possible,” said Steele, R-Shawnee. “This election provides a clear leadership transition that will allow us to make long-term policy plans. I look forward to working with not only all of the members of the Republican caucus, but all House members to move our state forward.”

Rep. Steele represents District 26 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, and completed his Master Degree in Education from East Central University in 2006.

Steele and his wife Kellie have been blessed with two daughters, 6-year-old Mackenzie and 5-year-old Madison.
Steele has been a pastor and currently serves as associate pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church in Shawnee.

Steele’s experience in education, volunteer work and government has provided him with a solid foundation as a state legislator. He was first elected to the House in November, 2000.

While in the Legislature, Steele has led the way on a number of health care reform initiatives. His Rx for Oklahoma plan helps low-income Oklahomans and senior citizens gain access to quality, safe prescription drugs.

Also, he helped turn a number of other health care reform measures into law, including proposals to lower health care insurance costs and ensure the safety of vulnerable Oklahomans who live in long-term care facilities. Steele also championed legislation to require background checks on Court Appointed Special Advocates, create the Oklahoma Task Force on Hunger and expand health savings accounts as an option for all state employees.

As co-chair of the Children and Juvenile Law Reform Committee created by the Kelsey Smith-Briggs Child Protection Act of 2006, he conducted a systematic review and study of all laws and procedures in Title 10 of the Oklahoma Statutes and passed legislation to reclassify, update, reform and recodify the statutes.
His work on behalf of at-risk children landed him a place in the Child Advocacy Institute Hall of Fame. In addition, as co-chair of the House Health Care Reform Task Force, Steele helped develop reforms and incentives for quality, affordable health care for all Oklahomans.

Steele will begin his final legislative term in 2011, and is set to serve as Speaker of the House for the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions.

Henry Bellmon 1921 ~ 2009

Henry Bellmon, 88, a farmer who became Oklahoma's first Republican Governor, died on Tuesday September 29. Bellmon also served 12 years in the US Senate and one two year term in the state House of Representatives.

Bellmons body will lie in repose at the State Capitol from 10:00am - 4:00pm on Friday October 2.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1001 South Rankin in Edmond, and at 3:00pm Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 422 Eighth in Perry.

Sen. Todd Lamb, announced candidate for Lt. Governor in 2010, will address the CCRP at their September 15 meeting. Meeting will begin at 6:30 at the Worley Center of the Great Plains Tech School in Lawton.

Senator Todd Lamb was elected to his first term in the Oklahoma Senate on November 2, 2004 by the voters of Senate district 47. District 47 encompasses Northwest Oklahoma City and portions of Edmond and Deer Creek. A few of the district's landmarks are Oklahoma Christian, Mercy Hospital, Quail Springs Mall, Francis Tuttle Technology Center, and the Baptist Retirement Village.

Senator Lamb and his wife Monica have been married 13 years and have two children, Griffin and Lauren. The Lambs are active members of Quail Springs Baptist Church, where Senator Lamb serves as a church deacon. They are also active in many other civic and political organizations. Senator Lamb is also a member of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association and officiates high school football. In Senator Lamb's spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, and spending time with his family.

Senator Lamb played college football at Louisiana Tech University and Oklahoma State University. Senator Lamb earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State. He earned his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.

In 1993, Senator Lamb worked on the campaign staff of gubernatorial candidate Frank Keating. Upon Keating's election, Lamb worked alongside the Governor for four years. During his time in the Governor's office, Lamb traveled to all of Oklahoma's 77 counties, almost half of the United States, and 2 foreign countries promoting Governor Keating's pro-growth economic agenda. Senator Lamb served in the Keating Administration from 1994 until 1998.

In 1998, Senator Lamb became a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. He was elected president of his Secret Service Academy class and graduated with special recognition. During his U.S. Secret Service tenure, Lamb investigated and made numerous arrests in the areas of counterfeiting, bank fraud, threats against the President, and identity theft. His duties included domestic and international protection assignments during the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. In 2000, Lamb was a site supervisor for George W. Bush's presidential campaign. In early 2001, he was appointed to the national Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he received training and briefings at the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service headquarters in Washington, D.C. After the terrorists' attacks, he was assigned to portions of the 9-11 investigation.

Senator Lamb departed the U.S. Secret Service in 2002 in order to spend more time with his wife and young family. Upon leaving the U.S. Secret Service, he accepted a position on the staff of United States Senator Don Nickles.
Senator Lamb is currently General Counsel for the CLS Group in Edmond, Oklahoma.

How important is political party affiliation? Some people mistakenly believe only politicians need political affiliation, which they use for support to get elected. They contend the electorate or voters, do not need to be aligned with any Party. These same people often state they “support the man, not the Party.” But whether they recognize it or not, they are supporting a party when they “support the man.”

The Democrat Party is more liberal than the Republican Party. Liberals believe in more government control of business, the environment and speech, using large bureaucratic programs to address real or perceived social ills and constant reinterpretation of the Constitution. Liberals are more inclined to trust government than the people themselves. They see the role of government as a great provider of goods and services and have little faith in the individual to solve his own problems.

Republicans are more conservative than Democrats. Conservatives believe in less government control of the environment and business. They want fewer and less comprehensive government programs to address real or perceived social ills. They believe in personal responsibility and trust individuals to make decisions for themselves. Republicans believe in a strict literal interpretation of the Constitution. A person should find out which of these philosophies best fits their view if they wish to actively participate in the political process.

Party affiliation is important. [George] Washington’s prophecy has come to pass, and political parties have been used to empower “unprincipled men,” on both sides of the aisle, but like it or not, political parties are a reality in our system of government. Each concerned citizen should evaluate the philosophy, values, beliefs and tenets of each Party and align their party affiliation accordingly.

Former House Speaker Todd Hiett says he's not a candidate for anything.
Hiett told the Tulsa World that while he has a campaign account open for the 2010 lieutenant governor's race, he is not running.
The Kellyville Republican said he had considered the race but decided against a campaign.
He is supporting Senator Todd Lamb of Edmond, who has yet to officially announce his candidacy.

Hiett said he is still active in the state Republican Party and wants to be a person who helps politicians, not be a politician himself.

4th District Elects new Budget Board member.

Good crowd for the 4th District Meeting in Chickasha this past Thursday evening. 4th District Chair Steve Fair ran a great meeting, topping the agenda was election of a state budget board member. Bill Williams of Comanche County who has served the past two terms did not seek re-election.
Casey Killblane of Murray County ran unopposed & will now represent the 4th district on the board. (pix at right).Casey has served on the board in the past as an appointed member. She will do a great job for the 4th district. Casey is daughter of long time GOP activists Skip & Sue Healey who were also in attendance.

State GOP Chair Gary Jones spoke on upcoming elections/candidates and two important workshops scheduled for State Committee meeting on July 11 - candidate training and a hands-on Voter Vault seminar.
Bobby Cleveland, chairman of Norman GOP, gave an interesting and informative (sometimes humorous), power-point presentation on 'Why I am a Republican'.
Pam Pollard of OKC announced that she is the new Director of Coalitions for Cong. Mary Fallins campaign for Governor.
Comanche County was represented by District Committee Man Kyle Heying.

On Thursday June 4, Sen. Todd Lamb of Edmond announced that former Senator Don Nickles and Sandridge Energy CEO Tom Ward will serve as co-chairmen for the Todd Lamb for Lt. Governor Campaign even though Lamb has yet to officially announce he's a candidate.

Rep. John Wright of Broken Arrow also is a candidate for the GOP nomination.

I'm sure many noticed the passing on June 3 of Col (rtr) Joseph L. Strelecki, 88, of Lawton. Joe was a long time GOP activist. Wrote great letters to the Editor from time to time and was active in local GOP meetings and events until health issues curtailed him. So sorry to lose Joe.

US Senator Tom Coburn announced on Monday that he will seek re-election.
The one-term senator and former congressman surprised few with his announcement. While there had been speculation he would not run again, but most insiders believed he would seek a second term. Coburn also announced this would be his last run!

Oklahoma and our Nation need 'Dr. No!'.

JC OUT, Mary Fallin, IN! Randy Brogdon, IN! Players for the Governors chair are changing and settling in on the Republican side of the aisle.

The Dems have Jari Askins IN and Edmondson a possibility?
Recent polls show a return of a Republican to the Guvs office is favored.

Possibly more musical chairs as voters await US Sen. Tom Coburns' decision on seeking re-election, which is supposed to be forthcoming. Some are saying he's NOT running which would open the door for return of 1). Former Gov. Frank Keating; 2). Possibly JC Watts, but not probable!; 3). Who knows.

And, several Repubs mentioned/announced for Lt. Gov.....1). Todd Lamb, IN; 2). John Wright, IN; 3). Colby Schwartz, IN.

There are other names floating around! We'll let them 'float' until they start sticking a bit!

President Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, publicly stated during his confirmation in Congress that he supported re-instating gun bans and will not let the Second Amendment "stand in the way" of achieving Obama administration objectives. Earlier this month Nancy Pelosi stated that gun registration was on her agenda as well. When asked if the Obama White House feared the National Rifle Association, senior advisor David Axelrod bluntly replied, "not at all... we'll monitor the issue, and if there's a consensus, we'll move on it."

All in spite of the Second Amendment's plain meaning, clearly defined over two centuries of civil freedom through common use and explicit court decisions.

The threat to our individual right to bear arms is immediate and real. That's why I've started an online petition demanding President Obama faithfully execute his duty to defend the Constitution and our individual right to bear arms.

Since taking office, President Obama's administration has been quick to blame American gun owners and manufacturers for the violence committed by Mexican drug-runners south of our border. No wonder, when Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel announced the Obama strategy just days after his election: "never let a serious crisis go to waste... it's an opportunity to do things you couldn't do before."

Will you stand with us, demand action, and ensure the Second Amendment doesn't become another "opportunity" for an Obama political victory?

JONES ~ LaPLANTE to lead State Republicans!

State Republican Party Chairman Gary Jones won re-election today by a margin of almost 4-to-1 over challenger Cheryl Williams, who sought to move up from the vice chairman's seat.

Convention delegates also voted overwhelmingly to keep the party's presidential primary instead of replacing it with a caucus system, Jones said. Senator Tom Coburn urged delegates to oppose the switch to a caucus, saying it will dilute the party's message and result in divisions among Republicans in the state.

Dear Fellow Delegate:

As Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party, I’ve tried to follow these words from Benjamin Franklin. My sole focus has been the betterment of the Republican Party in Oklahoma. And through my team’s undivided attention and our solid plan, we accomplished great things in this state. Let me be crystal clear:

I will defend my professional staff and the plan that we carried out to anyone, anytime, anyplace.

I was Chairman when Republicans took over the State House and the State Senate. I recognize that accomplishing those milestones was a team effort that required good candidates and great execution, but this execution was carried out on my watch. Angie and I want to see Republicans elect a Governor and Lt. Governor in 2010. We want to see Republicans in every statewide office. We want to see counties electing Republicans to county offices. We want to see County Republican organizations become more organized and functioning. While we have made great strides in getting everyone to pull on the same end of the rope at the same time, we can still improve.

During my tenure as State Chairman, I have traveled to every corner of Oklahoma. I have worked to make the Party inclusive and welcoming to anyone who wants to become involved. I have empowered the five District Chairman to provide a more decentralized mechanism for dispensing of information and resources. We are fortunate to have five excellent District Chairs that understand what it takes to win races and to build the grassroots. In spite of what we have accomplished, I still believe there is work to do---that's why I am seeking re-election as Chairman and why I have chosen to run on a ticket with Angie LaPlante.
